URBAN REGENERATION AT CONSELICE: THE NEW CIVIC CENTER
Conselice (Ravenna)

RICERCA E PROGETTO - Galassi, Mingozzi e Associati developed the “Urban Regeneration Strategy” proposal for the municipality of Conselice, with which the municipal administration participated in the Emilia-Romagna Region’s 2018 “Urban Regeneration” call for proposals and was awarded funding (Regional Council Resolution No. 2194 of December 17, 2018). The Urban Regeneration Strategy includes an action plan for revitalizing public spaces and fostering community engagement.
The driving force behind the strategy is the creation of a “civic center” in the most significant and representative location of the community itself, Piazza Felice Foresti, taking advantage of the opportunity presented by a currently vacant building located in the heart of the city, constructed in the mid-1970s.
The civic center, conceived as a social and cultural “hub,” will feature a “covered plaza,” and will constitute the natural conclusion of a route that already exists in embryonic form but has been envisioned in its potential developments and meanings as the “arts promenade”—a path that begins at the point physically connecting the city to the outside world, the train station, and ends at the place representing the heart of the community, namely Piazza Felice Foresti.
Along with the strategy, the architectural firm has drafted the “Technical and Economic Feasibility Study” for the new civic center and is currently developing the final design for it.
The project includes measures aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, improving energy efficiency and safety, and reducing operating costs.
